Ways to help eliminate disease carrying and dangerous pests from your home

Most people don’t realize the health risks associated with some pests. Some are greater than others and some pests effect certain people differently.

·         Mice and Rats spread many diseases with their droppings and urine and have been connected directly to certain diseases.  Some of the most common diseases associated with rodents: Hantavirus, lymphocytic choriomeningitis, tularemia, lime’s disease and plague. Some recent studies are associate in mice and rats with the cause of asthma related illness as well.

o   It is important to attempt to seal any  openings that allow rodents to get into your home:

  • cracks in foundations or in between siding
  • inspect and replace faulty garage door seals
  • eliminate over growth and dense brush on exterior
  • reduce clutter and storage in garages and basements don’t feed wildlife; 
  • Not recommended to feed birds or wildlife as this will attract mice and rats.

o   Seal up any noticeable cracks or gaps in siding, around windows , doors and overhangs.

o   Keep an eye out for increased activity of wasps, yellow jackets or hornets around roof lines, vents and decks.
